Lagoon liners for livestock and municipal operations
Livestock and dairy operations use the same HDPE geomembrane as a manure lagoon liner and dairy lagoon liner, or as a slurry lagoon liner where the site handles liquid slurry rather than solid manure. Where the lagoon runs anaerobic, we usually pair the liner with a separate cover — see our floating cover page for that half of an anaerobic lagoon system. Municipal and industrial sites specify the same wastewater liner as a sewage lagoon or process pond liner. In agricultural states such as Oklahoma and Texas, these livestock and municipal lagoon projects are typically specified in a mid-to-heavy gauge for the biological loading and equipment traffic involved.

How do I choose the lagoon liner thickness?
Thickness follows the duty: the wastewater chemistry and temperature, whether the liner stays exposed to sunlight, the mechanical loads from cleaning equipment, and any minimum your local regulation fixes. Exposed lagoons with periodic sludge removal are normally specified in a heavier gauge than covered or protected ones. Tell us the service conditions and we will confirm the lagoon liner gauge against the SIGMA geomembrane datasheet when we quote.
Can an existing earthen lagoon be retrofitted with a liner?
Yes. The lagoon is taken out of service, dewatered and cleaned of sludge, the slopes are regraded and soft spots repaired, and gas venting is added where organic subgrades could lift the sheet. The geomembrane is then deployed, welded into one continuous lagoon liner and secured in a perimeter anchor trench — a standard upgrade for unlined ponds that are losing wastewater to the ground.
